Background Checks

Background check packages can be tailored to meet your requirements. Our trained account managers will work with you to set up the most cost-effective package for your specific needs. All of our reports begin with a Results Summary. The summary lists each report component with the corresponding status. It’s a great way to see which items on the report need particular attention and whether there are any areas of concern regarding your applicant.

  Criminal Record Searches

  •   County Criminal Records Criminal court files at the state jurisdictional court (county court) are searched for felony and misdemeanor records. Viewpoint Screening conducts a criminal record search by name at the court(s) required by your customized background check. Each county court search will cover a history of seven (7) years from the date of request unless available otherwise or instructed otherwise by the client. Some reporting prohibitions on criminal records that antedated the report by seven years may apply. Detailed information on criminal records found will include, when made available by the court, but may not be limited to; date of offense, charges, plea, disposition and sentence. Open arrest warrants are also reported and generally include cases awaiting trial or charges for failure to appear.
  •   Statewide Criminal Records The Statewide Criminal Records search directly accesses a state's criminal records repository. The Statewide Criminal Records search covers most counties in a state and will provide felony and misdemeanor conviction information going back at least 7 years. The Statewide Criminal Records search is a cost-effective way to search for criminal records on an individual who has lived in several counties within a State. Not all states are available for Statewide Criminal Record searches.
  •   Federal Criminal Records Criminal court files at the United States Federal District Court are searched for felony and misdemeanor records. Criminal record searches are conducted on a nationwide level. Each federal conviction search will cover a history of seven (7) years from the date of request unless available otherwise or instructed otherwise by the client. Federal charges typically encompass severe crimes such as drug violations, illegal sale of firearms, embezzlement, and pornographic exploitation of children. Federal crimes do not appear in statewide or county criminal searches.
  •   Crime Database The Nationwide Database search is a search of a proprietary database containing over 200 million records from multiple jurisdiction-sources. Sources include state court repositories, departments of correction, county courts, and other state level agencies, as well as sex and violent offender records from all 50 states. This product is suggested to be used in conjunction with county criminal history reports. Please see the Nationwide Database Details for more information.
  •   Sexual Offender Registry A sexual offender index search reveals applicants convicted of sexual offenses. A sexual offender search is an integral part of the employment screening process and is essential for businesses whose employees deal with children, the elderly, or disabled individuals, or employees whose duties require them to enter a private residence. Sex offender data sources nationwide, such as: Bureaus of Investigation, Departments of Law Enforcement, Departments of Corrections, Departments of Justice, Departments of Public Safety, Sheriff’s Departments, State Attorney General’s Offices, and State Police. Please note that the Sex Offender Registry does not contain information on all convicted sex offenders. Some states provide information only for sex offenders with assessment scores of Intermediate or High.

  Database Searches

  •   Address History A powerful tool that provides information on individuals’ past addresses and movement patterns. The Address History establishes a starting point and allows for better management and a more complete background check by verifying and returning information on a person's: full name, age/date of birth, address, and dates at listed addresses.
  •   Social Security Validation Verifying the information provided by the candidate concerning his/her identity is the primary step in any background check. This aggregate database search reveals the connection between the candidate’s name and SSN based on history of use and will reveal the year and state of issuance of the subject’s SSN.
  •   Credit Report Individuals that are in extreme financial straits with debts that exceed income may be considered a potential risk in certain situations. Investigating an individual’s financial history and credit report background may be necessary to mitigate that risk when considering a candidate for a financial position. Viewpoint credit reports are obtained through a database search of one of the credit bureaus and report consumer credit activity covering a seven year period detailing overdue or slow account, charge off, collections, suits, tax liens, public records, judgments and bankruptcies.
  •   Motor Vehicle Records Driver History Reports are obtained from the state of issuance and typically cover a three, five, or seven year history depending on the state searched. Information reported includes accidents, suspensions, and violations. The state of Washington will only provide license verification. Clients requiring driver history from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation must complete and notarize a special one-time affidavit for the search.

  Healthcare Registries

  •   Fraud Abuse and Control Info System (FACIS) Because disciplinary actions and other sanctions are tracked and reported by numerous agencies or associations in each state, healthcare employers frequently struggle to determine what constitutes a reasonable search effort. The Fraud Abuse and Control Information System, known as FACIS, is a database information service that offers sanction histories on individuals and entities in the healthcare field. FACIS reports on disciplinary actions from exclusions and debarments to probation and letters of reprimand. The search includes information provided by Federal agencies as well as more than 800 licensing and certification agencies located in all 50 states. FACIS provides information on more than 50 types of healthcare professionals, from physicians and midwives to home health agencies and ambulatory services. The search also references OFAC, OIG, GSA, SDN and Blocked Persons List.
  •   OIG Exclusions List The OIG maintains the list of excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE), a database providing information to the public, health care providers, patients and others relating to parties excluded from participation in the Medicare, Medicaid and all Federal health care programs.
  •   General Services Administration Excluded Parties List System (GSA EPLS) The General Services Administration (GSA) maintains the List of Parties Excluded (EPLS). EPLS is the electronic version of the Lists of Parties Excluded from Federal Procurement and Nonprocurement Programs (Lists), which identifies those parties excluded throughout the U.S. Government (unless otherwise noted) from receiving Federal contracts or certain subcontracts and from certain types of Federal financial and non-financial assistance and benefits. GSA is required by the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) to compile and maintain a list of parties debarred, suspended, proposed for debarment, or declared ineligible by agencies or by the General Accounting Office.
  •   Medical Sanctions Database Examines multiple state and federal sources to assist in the identification of health care providers who may have histories of federal or state-level disciplinary actions or disqualifications, or may otherwise place your organization at increased risk.

  •   Provider Licensure Database Examines state licensing authorities to validate the licensure or registration status of credentialed medical providers.
  •   Provider Observation Database Contains historical and updated information from the National Provider Identifier (NPI) registry.

Drug Testing

With over 14,000 collection sites nationwide, Viewpoint Screening provides the closest locations where the applicant, employee or student provides a sample. At the testing facility, a technician oversees collection and forwards the sample to the laboratory. Negative results are available within 24-48 hours. Viewpoint Screening conducts industry standard 5, 7, 9, 10 and expanded panel urine drug tests to detect the use of illegal drugs and commonly abused prescription drugs.

  Laboratory Testing

  •   Pre-employment Testing Viewpoint Screening has a network of over 18,000 collection sites to collect specimens. Samples are then shipped overnight to a nationally certified laboratory.
  •   Random Testing Well-designed random testing programs identify employees who are using drugs or misusing alcohol but are able to use the predictability of other testing methods to escape detection. More importantly, it is widely believed that random testing serves as a strong deterrent against employees beginning or continuing prohibited drug use and misuse of alcohol. We recommend spreading random testing dates reasonably throughout the year so as to not establish a predictable pattern. This prevents employees from coordinating their drug and alcohol use with the random testing schedule. Viewpoint Screening can provide a computer-generated random selection on a monthly or quarterly basis. Initially, your organization must determine the percentage or number of employees to be tested. If you employ workers who are mandated by the government to undergo random testing, you must meet the government's minimum standards for testing for those employees. At the beginning of your program, you will submit a master list of employees including their full name and social security number (or other unique employee identification number). Other identifiers may also be provided at your discretion, such as employee division/location, department, job title, etc. Every month or quarter thereafter, you will submit an update to Viewpoint Screening. The software utilizes a sequential numbering system to select the employees for the random list based upon the percentage requirements for your company. In accordance with federal guidelines, each employee will have the same chance of being selected each time a list is generated. This technique is called "random with replacement." There will be no maximum number of samples that any one individual will be required to provide during the testing schedule.
  •   Reasonable Cause and Post-Incident Testing Viewpoint Screening establishes a network of collection sites to collect specimens and blood or breath samples for alcohol testing.
  •   Medical Review Officer (MRO) Viewpoint Screening retains the services of a MRO, a licensed physician with a specialty in toxicology. They will attempt to consult with any donor that tests positive to determine if there is a medical condition or valid prescription that could result in the positive test.
  •   Substance Abuse and Contraband Policy Our extensive knowledge about the regulations governing drug and alcohol testing serves as an excellent resource when developing a drug and alcohol testing policy. Viewpoint will assist you in developing a policy which accurately reflects the philosophy and goals of your organization while complying with all federal, state and local regulations. Viewpoint will assist you in this policy creation by providing examples of generally accepted policies. Laws pertaining to workplace drug-testing in the United States are constantly in transition. Changes come from all levels of the courts as well as federal, state and local regulations. Viewpoint monitors these changes through its affiliation with industry-specific, professional organizations. Although we are not a substitute for competent legal counsel, we can provide assistance to companies relating to drug testing laws and regulations in the states in which it conducts business operations.
  •   Drug and Alcohol Test Reports Test Reports are available to you on your secure login page. Results can be bundled with background check results, or stored separately. Negative drug results are typically available within 24 hours of receipt at the laboratory. An exception would be a test that detects a substance at the cut off level, but is confirmed by gc/ms to be negative. All results and invoices are sent to Viewpoint Screening. Our clients receive one invoice for all services rendered.

  Onsite Testing

  •   Oral Fluid Testing Oral Fluid Testing reveals the presence of up to five drugs. Applicants or employees provide a sample by placing a small swab between their cheek and gum. The sample is either analyzed on-site at the time of the test or sealed in a specimen package and shipped overnight to a lab for analysis.
  •   Dip Testing Dip Testing screens for the presence of up to 10 drugs immediately. The applicant or employee provides a sample in a specimen cup. The employer then dips a test strip into the sample and the results are visible within 5-10 minutes.
  •   Pipette Testing Pipette Testing screens for the presence of up to 9 substances. The applicant or employee provides a sample in a specimen cup. The employer, using a pipette, places drops of the sample on a test cassette. Results are visible within 5-10 minutes.

Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse

A maximum of 10 semester hours blanket credit may be awarded for the LPN-BSN completion students with proof of current unencumbered Practical Nurse licensure received from an approved state board of nursing within a state where Presentation College is authorized to deliver the program. These credits will be transcribed, upon successful completion of all other program progression requirements, as the following:

Sequential Progression

Students enrolled in the nursing program are subject to three different minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) standards. Nursing classes have a prefix of NB and NL. Students who are enrolled in courses that are prerequisites for nursing classes or general education courses required for the degree must earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00. Students are, however, advised that maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.00 is not sufficient to meet the standard for enrollment in nursing classes.

Students must achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.70 in order to initially enroll in nursing classes (see below).

After the first semester of enrollment in nursing classes, students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. Once a student progresses to the nursing major and falls below the minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA, the student must appeal in writing to the Division of Nursing for consideration (see progression policy below). A one-time grace period for the semester following the GPA of less than 2.50 is granted in order to give the student the opportunity to raise the GPA to the 2.50 standard before dismissal from the program.

Enrollment in entry level nursing courses (NB 215/NL 215) will be permitted only if students have:

  • Completed all prerequisite courses
  • Earned a grade of "C" (2.00) or above in all required nursing major and health professions track requirement courses and in the following courses: CT 233, EN 133, and RS 293.
  • Maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.70 or higher.

Students may continue to progress according to the curriculum plan if they:

  • Complete all prerequisite courses prior to enrollment in any nursing course
  • Earn a grade of  "C"  (2.00) or above in all required nursing major and health professions track requirement courses
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher
  • Maintain an unencumbered and active license and be in compliance with all states where PC is authorized to offer the program and other appropriate state Nurse Practice Acts (LPN and RN students)
  • The RN student who is practicing as a community health nurse may be eligible to challenge NB 462/NL 462 per a portfolio. Courses successfully challenged through the portfolio process will be recorded on the transcript for a fee, not including the cost of the portfolio fee.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory performance of designated nursing skills with each clinical course and earn a satisfactory grade in both the theory and clinical/lab components of the nursing courses.
  • Pass the math calculation competency test at 100% each semester in selected clinical courses (RNs are exempt) (see Handbook for policy).
  • Remain in compliance with the standards of the nursing profession as defined by the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of practice and the Nurse Practice Act for nurses in states in which Presentation College is authorized to offer the program.
  • Maintain all rules and regulations of Presentation College as outlined in the  College Catalog .
  • Maintain current background screen(s), nursing documentation, immunizations, and other requirements in the Viewpoint Document Tracker which are valid for the entirety of the next academic semester by the deadlines of April 1st for the summer semester, August 1st for the fall semester, and December 1st for the spring semester. The cost of these items is the student's responsibility. See the Nursing Student Handbook for specific requirements.

LPN-BSN students (diploma, associate degree, or certificate) will have the opportunity to complete selected NLN mobility exams. The selected NLNs must be completed prior to enrolling in the first nursing course of NB 215/NL 215, or a signed waiver must be on file with the Division of Nursing forfeiting the right to take NLNs and agreeing to complete required coursework and clinical. Students must meet the benchmark on all of the mobility NLN exams that are attempted. If students do not meet the benchmark the first time, they will do informal remediation to master the content before retaking the exam. All students are allowed ONLY two attempts on each NLN mobility exam. Students who do not pass the exam on the second attempt will be required to take the appropriate coursework and accompanying clinical.

The benchmarks for the diploma and associate LPN NLN mobility exams are outlined below:

  • NACE II Care of the Adult Client is 74%
  • NACE II Care of the Client with a Mental Disorder is 72%
  • NACE II Care of the Childbearing Family is 72%
  • NACE II Care of the Child is 72%
  • Multilevel achievement exam Anatomy and Physiology is 70%
  • Multilevel achievement exam Microbiology is 70%

Please note that both the NACE II Care of the Childbearing Family and NACE II Care of the Child must successfully be passed in order to receive credit for Maternal-Child Nursing. Courses challenged with exams will be recorded on the transcript for a fee, not including the challenge test fee. Contact the Career and Learning Center for scores for the CLEP exam equivalent to EN 113 College Composition I (prerequisite to EN 133) and CH 103/CL 101 Introduction to Chemistry (prerequisite to CH 140).

For the diploma and associate LPN *successful challenge exams can include credit as follows:

  • NLN mobility exam NLN NACE II Care of the Client with a Mental Disorder: NB 345/NL 345 (4 credits) and PS 133 (3 credits)
  • NLN mobility exam NLN NACE II Care of the Childbearing Family and NLN NACE II Care of the Child: NB 331/NL 331 (5 credits) and PS 153 (3 credits)
  • NLN mobility exam NLN NACE II Care of the Adult Client: NB 364/NL 364 (5 credits), BI 263 (3 credits) BL 263 (1 credit), BI 293 (3 credits), and BL 291 (1 credit)
  • Anatomy and Physiology: BI 293 (3 credits) and BL 291 (1 credit)
  • Microbiology: BI 263 (3 credits) and BL 263 (1 credit)
  • EN 113: College Composition I - CLEP (prerequisite to EN 133) (3 credits)

Students who do not progress according to the curriculum plan as identified, fail, or withdraw from nursing courses must petition in writing to the Division of Nursing Admission and Progression Committee to gain permission to progress out of the expected sequence (email [email protected]).

A nursing course may be repeated one time only regardless of whether students earn less than a  "C"  or withdraw failing ( "WF" ).

Students who earn less than a  "C"  or withdraw failing ( "WF" ) in two nursing courses in two separate semesters will not be allowed to progress.

Students are accountable to follow all policies in the current Nursing Student Handbook.

In keeping with accreditation guidelines, nursing students shall complete their coursework within six calendars years, which is equivalent to 150% of the expected time allotted for program completion. In the event that students are unable to complete program requirements within the six-year timeframe, they will have a one-time opportunity to create a coursework completion plan which shall set forth a program of study for the remaining coursework to be completed within a two-year time period. The completion plan must be approved by the Nursing Division. Failure to successfully complete the remaining coursework as outlined in the completion plan within the two-year timeframe will result in termination from the program.

Failure to achieve any of these standards shall constitute reason for students to be dismissed from the program. The faculty and administration of the Division of Nursing reserve the right to dismiss any student enrolled in the major for unethical, dishonest, unprofessional, or illegal conduct that is inconsistent with the  ANA Code for Nurses.

Readmission - Progression

Students requesting readmission-progression must apply in writing to the Division of Nursing (email [email protected]). Student situations are reviewed on an individual basis. Placement is dependent upon class size and course enrollment constraints. Readmission-progression cannot be guaranteed to any student. How to Make a Google Slides Presentation for College

Want to make your college presentation stand out from the rest? Here are some tips for making a professional presentation in Google Slides.

Presentation assignments help you build your speaking skills. They can help you conquer your fear of public speaking, too. If you use Google Slides, it’s easy to set up a college presentation.

First, we’ll go over how to use Google Slides’ five basic features to create your presentation. After that, you’ll find three key tips to make your presentation great.

Creating a College Presentation in Google Slides

The five key features of Google Slides are the Templates, Themes, Layouts, Add-Ons, and Presenter View.

1. Choose a Template

Google Slides comes with lots of premade templates. You can use them to save time designing each slide. View Google’s included templates by clicking Template Gallery on the Slides homepage.

You can also find useful Google Slides templates around the web . Try to find a template that matches your presentation’s goal. For instance, a sales pitch template will work as an argument or business plan.

Once you find a good template, click its name at the top left to change it. Next, save it to use again in the future.

To save a copy, go to File > Make a Copy > Entire Presentation . Give the copy a generic name, like Marketing Presentation , and save it to your Drive. This gives you a clean copy to make future presentations from.

It’s a good idea to save a handful of templates this way. Look at your course outlines to see what kinds you will need.

2. Share With Teammates

If you are presenting as part of a group, go to the Share button at the top-right to get a link for your classmates. Be sure that permissions are set to Anyone with the link and Editor . This way, your team members can join with a single click.

You can also give access using an email. Click on Add people and groups , and either type in or select your groupmates’ email addresses. You can share your Slides to non-Gmail accounts , too.

3. Select a Theme

On the right-hand side, you will see several Themes available. Themes put a fresh look on an old template. Select an appropriate theme for your project. Try to find one you have not used for that class before.

Depending on the template, you might need to make some changes after changing the theme. For instance, you might have to move text that overlaps with the new border. You may also need to change the font color if it’s hard to read on the new background.

To move an element, click and drag. To change colors, select the text or graphic, then choose a new color from the context menu.

4. Choose Slide Layouts

Right-click a slide and select Apply Layout to see the options. The best ones to use are Title Only , One-column text , and Big Number . These options leave plenty of room for graphics. They help you avoid crowded slides that are hard to read.

You don’t need Main Point slides if the section is only one or two slides long. For longer sections, Main Point slides let you review the section's contents. But slides that only stay up long enough to state the title will break the flow of your presentation.

5. Use Add-Ons to Improve the Visuals

You can make good use of Google Slides Add-Ons to import special elements. They let you add flow charts, math formulas, and convert images into slides.

Take a moment to install add-ons for all the graphics design software you use. Slides should always rely more on graphics than text, so the more options you have, the better.

6. Practice in Presenter View

You can find Presenter View by clicking the dropdown arrow on the Slideshow setting. It's in the top-right corner of the screen. Presenter View allows you to see the current slide, a preview of the next one, and your notes. At the same time, it sends the slide to display elsewhere.

You can even view the notes on your phone while you present. However, in some settings, using a personal phone looks unprofessional. Talk with your professor about expectations. You may also be able to use or borrow a tablet for the presentation.

Presenter View also includes a timer at the top-left. Practicing in this mode lets you get an accurate idea of how long each slide takes. This helps you adjust the timing as you present. You can notice when you need to save time by summarizing, and when you can slow down for more detail.

Tips for a Great Presentation

Now that your slide structure is in place, it’s time to start designing the slides.

1. Use the Notes Panel

Audiences can’t listen and read at the same time. If the slides and speaking are the same, you force the audience to ignore half of your presentation. Instead, use the Notes panel at the bottom of the screen to organize what you will say.

You can click and drag on the panel’s border to give yourself more space. Use bulleted lists and bolding, so you can read at a glance.

You can't make eye contact with the audience if you are reading notes. So instead of a read-aloud script, use the notes as reminders. Use shorthand and keywords instead of full sentences.

2. Focus on the Graphics

Your speaking is the most important part of the presentation, so reduce the text by as much as possible. Instead, use graphics to help the audience understand and remember your main points.

If you’re presenting numbers, adding a chart from Google Sheets can help the audience visualize them. You can also use photos to create a visual reference. For instance, if you talk about a brand, showing the logo can help the audience remember it.

You can find lots of graphic options in the Insert menu. You can also import them from another site using an Add-On . Once you’ve added a chart, click its top-right corner to open the menu. Then select View Source to change the data in Google Sheets.

Try to choose high-resolution images that look good with your theme colors. All slides should have more graphics and blank space than text. Text size should be at least 24, to make sure people can read it from far away.

3. Practice Makes Perfect

In the end, the essential part of a presentation isn’t the slides; it’s how you present them. Therefore, practicing several times is critical. Smooth flow and speaker confidence are usually worth a lot of marks, and practice is the only way to improve them.

When you practice, act as if it's the real thing. Stand at the front of the room, and make eye contact with your practice audience. If possible, try to practice in the same room that you will present.

It can be hard to practice with no audience. If you are giving a solo presentation, offer to practice with classmates. You can give each other constructive criticism. If you can’t find any people, practice speaking to a rubber duck. Even a toy with a face is better than an empty room.

Ace Your Presentations With Google Slides

Using Google Slides, you can put an “A+” presentation together in no time. Then, you can use themes, layouts, and other features to fill them in.

It’s important to focus on your speaking skills. A good speaker should know how to engage their audience. Getting them involved with some interactive segments is a great way to do that.

  • Students can alleviate presentation stress through careful planning and regular practice.
  • For all courses and assignments, be sure you understand your professor's expectations.
  • Use engaging materials, and rehearse your presentation in front of family and friends.

Whether you're enrolled in online or on-campus classes, you should expect assignments that require you to present your work to professors and classmates. Many students feel uneasy with public speaking, but it doesn't have to be like this.

The following tips are designed to help you feel more comfortable with college presentations. Preparation and practice improve your skills and confidence, resulting in a better experience overall, not to mention better grades .

Do Not Procrastinate

If the thought of a college presentation stresses you out, waiting until the last minute to get started will only make the situation worse. At the beginning of each academic term, you should review each course syllabus carefully. Note any presentation-related assignments and due dates in your calendar, and start planning as soon as possible.

If research is required, this will take time to complete, in addition to preparing the presentation itself.

Understand the Assignment

It's important to know not only what's required of a specific presentation but also how it will be evaluated. Your syllabus and other course materials may include detailed instructions and a grading rubric. Look for details related to the following:

Time Limits

Scope and format, tools and technology, develop your presentation materials.

Once you have a clear understanding of what's required and expected, it's time to create your presentation. The following steps will help you get off to a good start with your next assignment:

Start With an Outline

Engage your audience, focus on your goals, follow basic design principles, consider creating a handout, rehearse and get feedback.

One of the biggest keys to speaking confidently, in person or online, is to know your topic. Calm any pre-presentation nerves with practice. Ask a classmate, friend, or family member to help out by watching you give your presentation. If that's not possible, try recording yourself so you can review it on your own.

To get the best results, some sources advise you to practice your speech as many as 10 times . Try the following techniques to make the most of your rehearsal sessions:

Do Not Read Your Presentation

Make eye contact, avoid 'um,' 'ah,' and 'like', anticipate technical problems, maximize success in your college presentations.

If you have any questions about presentations in your college classes, ask your professors for clarification. They can share their expectations with you and direct you to available resources. These could include help with your topic research, access to software and multimedia tools, and design templates.

Dartmouth College's library and the student research office at California State University, San Marcos , provide some examples of what you might find at your own college.

Practice makes perfect when presentation skills are concerned. Embrace your college presentation requirements as an opportunity to develop skills that will benefit you not only while you're in school, but also while you pursue a career.
