1. define your goals.
Are you aiming to increase web traffic or grow your social media presence? Figure out why you’re leveraging paid media in the first place and build your strategy from there. Having clearly defined goals in mind will help you focus on your brand’s key priorities.
Designing strategies that cater to all three stages of the buyer journey ensures that you’re maximizing your brand’s reach. Every user at every stage is valuable—and you have to make sure you’re creating paid media content that speaks to each audience type.
Effective paid media is tied to targeting the right keywords. If you’re leveraging paid search ads to appear on SERPs (search engine results pages), then in-depth research is necessary. Bid on the keywords that are most relevant to your business to trigger only the most effective ad appearances.
Gather your team—because it’s time to start coming up with ad copy that wins attention. The key is to resonate with your audience and inspire engagement. Be real. Be relatable. And most importantly, don’t underestimate the power of creativity.
Do the landing pages on your website effectively push visitors further down the sales funnel? If not, you’re letting potential customers slip through your fingers. Optimize each of your landing pages so that they nudge users towards converting.
The options are plenty when it comes to paid advertising, including Google, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Microsoft, and Pinterest among others. Analyze who your target demographic is, research where it’s best to connect with them, and then target the platforms where you wish to build awareness.
If you’re ready to build your paid media ad campaign, you’ll find that it will be further broken down into “ad groups” to ensure more effective pay-per-click advertising. These ad groups house one or more ads that have similar targets or categories. Let’s say your brand’s website features categories such as clothing, shoes, and accessories. Creating ad groups according to keywords that fall under these categories will help the PPC system decide when to show ads for these products.
Retargeting ads are bound to succeed because it’s a second shot at a conversion. Visitors have shown interest in the product/service once before, and sometimes all it takes is a little reminder to push them to the checkout page. So don’t forget to retarget and aim better this time.
In the world of paid media, what works and what doesn’t? You’ll have to run A/B tests to find out! Whether you’re testing which keywords bring more traffic or which social platforms earn more ad engagement, you won’t find out what really works for your brand until you test it.
Revisit your initial goals. Did your efforts bring about the results you expected? Tracking results is an essential step in your brand’s paid advertising campaigns. The data you collect from currently running ads will help lay the foundation for your future campaigns.
After tracking your results, you’ll be able to see where adjustments are necessary. There’s always room for improvement, so keep striving to consistently resonate and build trust with your audience—it’s how to create paid ads that pay off.

From magical fantasies to sweet rom-coms, your TBR pile is about to topple over—thanks to TikTok.
Country Living editors select each product featured. If you buy from a link, we may earn a commission. Why Trust Us?
Whether you're a seasoned reader or just picking up the habit, it's hard to ignore the impact BookTok (shorthand for the rise of book content on TikTok) has had on the publishing world.
Although we, as lifelong readers, love seeing everyone fall head over heels for reading, some of BookTok's recommendations could use some finessing. After all, with so many recommendations, there's bound to be a dud or two in the mix. Luckily, there are plenty of great books that have become synonymous with BookTok—and we're rounding them up just for you.
Behold 40 TikTok-approved books that are actually worth the read (or listen, if you prefer to go the Amazon Audible route), from love stories that will leave you blushing to literary tomes and young adult novels that will make you feel like a kid again.
Even fantasy skeptics will fall for this novel, set at a war college where students are bound to dragons. Violet is supposed to become a quiet scribe working in a library until she defies the odds and enters the Riders Quadrant, where she starts intense training and combat in preparation for fighting in a brutal war. In a romantic twist, she can't help but fall for Xaden, the ruthless and brooding wingleader in charge of her training.
Fourth Wing is the perfect starter fantasy series because the world-building isn't too intense and most of the characters are humans. As strange as it might sound, you'll have a newfound appreciation for dragons after reading.
Emily Henry is truly the patron saint of the perfect rom-com. Her novels are equal parts hilarious and heartwarming, and she has an uncanny ability to pen romances in which the characters feel like real people.
All of her rom-coms are worth the read, but if you're looking for a place to start, you can't go wrong with Beach Read , a rom-com about dueling novelists who fall in love after challenging each other to write a book in the other's genre. Although you can certainly expect lots of laughs, don't be surprised if you get a little misty by the end of this one!
Ever wonder what animals in the aquarium are thinking? That phenomenon is explored in Remarkably Bright Creatures , which has defied the literary odds and sold over a million copies , thanks in large part to BookTok.
Tova takes a job working the night shift at an aquarium to help cope with her grief after the death of her husband and the disappearance of her son over thirty years ago. At work, she becomes acquainted with Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus with a less-than-sparkling attitude. As their bond grows, Marcellus begins to investigate what happened to Tova's son in order to help her with her grief. Dear reader, you've been warned, bring tissues if you read this one in public.
Even the strictest romance skeptic will fall head over heels for this love story following two writers who just can't quit writing about each other in their bestsellers.
Eva Mercy, a paranormal erotica writer and single mom grappling with chronic migraines, is shocked when she runs into Shane Hall, an award-winning literary author, at a book event. What members of New York's literary scene don't know is that Eva and Shane spent one sizzling week together as teens that ended in tragedy and have been including references to each other in their work ever since. Over seven steamy summer days, the pair reconnect—although Eva is wary of having her heart broken by Shane all over again.
No matter if you're intimately familiar with Jennette McCurdy's Nickelodeon years or have never seen an episode of iCarly , this memoir is a must-read.
Although the title is jarring, this is a deeply emotional, sometimes difficult, and surprisingly funny depiction of growing up as a child star in the spotlight. There's no denying that Jennette has been through a lot—this book covers everything from her struggle with alcohol to eating disorders and an abusive relationship with her mother. It's impossible to not root for Jennette to reclaim her life, and you'll marvel at not only her dazzling storytelling (she's now working on her first novel!), but also her remarkable resilience.
Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of BookTok's most beloved authors. While her contemporary romances are sweet, easy reads, her historical work is where she shines. All four of her historical novels ( The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo , Daisy Jones and the Six , Malibu Rising , and Carrie Soto Is Back ) are connected through small Easter eggs, but you can read them in any order.
Start with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo , which is reportedly inspired by Elizabeth Taylor's prolific love life. After a long Hollywood career, Evelyn Hugo has become reclusive. She decides to re-emerge with a tell-all memoir about her seven marriages and taps an unsuspecting reporter to pen the book. Prepare yourself for a twist that will make your jaw hit the floor!
If you're in need of a sweet read that evokes the feeling of watching your favorite 1980s teen movie (John Hughes, anyone?), it doesn't get any, well, better than Better Than The Movies .
Lix Buxbaum, a teenage movie buff, has spent her formative years pining after Michael, until he moves away. After he returns to town years later, Liz is poised to finally make her move, even if it means she has to befriend Wes, her next-door neighbor and Michael's closest friend at school. Not only is this book one of the sweetest depictions of first love you'll ever read, it's also chock-full of film references.
The Song of Achilles might be one of the best stories to come out of BookTok. When the novel was released in 2012, it received critical acclaim, but it didn't make a huge splash commercially. After it went viral on TikTok, though, it became a bestseller over a decade after it was first released.
This novel reimagines Homer's The Iliad. Achilles, known as the "best of all the Greeks," develops a special bond with Patroclus, an awkward young prince who was exiled from his own homeland. When war erupts, both Achilles and Patroclus head into combat, only to find that fate will test them in unprecedented ways.
Diplomacy is on display in this swoonworthy romance that was recently turned into a movie.
Alex Claremont-Diaz, America's First Son, is playing his role as American royalty perfectly, aside from one thing: He's involved in a longstanding feud with Prince Henry, who's next in line to the British throne. When the tabloids get ahold of a photo of the duo in an altercation, it becomes a PR nightmare. Their teams devise a plan to stage a truce between the rivals that turns deeper when they begin to fall for each other. There's no better read for royal watchers, political pundits, or anyone who loves a good love story.
Imagine the movie You've Got Mail set in a magical world where gods are at war after centuries of sleep and love interests communicate using magical typewriters. That's exactly what you get with Divine Rivals , the first in a young adult duology (you're in luck: the sequel, Ruthless Vows , is out now).
Iris Winnow is counting on a promotion at the newspaper in order to support her struggling family. Every night after work, she uses her typewriter to pen letters to her brother, who is missing at war. When she slips the letters under her closet door, they vanish into the hands of Roman, Iris's rival at the newspaper. When he begins to write her back, they forge a romantic connection that is tested by the war.
British columnist Dolly Alderton channels all of the feelings of first love, friendship woes, and job-searching into her debut memoir. Through hilarious commentary, she recounts everything from her failed relationships to mending friendships, all with the relatable voice of a big sister or a best friend.
Everything I Know About Love is jam-packed with early 2000s nostalgia, one-liners that will have you wiping away tears of laughter, astute observations about growing up and figuring out who you are—and even recipes and satirical emails. While some might classify this as a self-help book (Dolly does give some great advice!), her heartfelt humor is what makes this book so special.
It's no secret that Colleen Hoover's novels dominate BookTok. If you're looking for a place to start, we recommend Verity , which we can confidently say will be unlike anything you've ever read before.
Lowen, a struggling writer, gets the break of a lifetime when she's hired by Jeremy to ghostwrite the remaining books in his wife Verity's bestselling book series. When Lowen moves into their home, she discovers a manuscript for Verity's unpublished memoir that reveals shocking secrets. As Lowen's feelings for Jeremy intensify, she considers showing him the manuscript in a bid to win him over. We'll stop there. It's best to go into this book knowing as little as possible—the twists are that shocking.
Sarah J. Maas, who has written three fantasy series, was already incredibly popular before the dawn of BookTok—but her novels have become full-blown sensations, thanks to her legion of fervent fans on the app.
This ongoing series, which currently contains four full-length novels and a novella, begins as a loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast . After Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, she's given an ultimatum: die or move to a magical land that's not safe for humans. As she acclimates to her new surroundings, she's drawn to a faerie whose fate becomes entwined with her own.
While BookTok is famous for fawning over happily ever afters, there's one deeply realistic (and slightly sad) love story that's been a viral success.
Sally Rooney's Normal People follows Connell and Marianne through their formative years. They first meet in high school, where Connell is a popular soccer player and Marianne is lonely, but wealthy, living in a palatial home that Connell's mother cleans. The duo form a close bond through secret meet-ups. A year later, they're both students at Trinity College in Dublin, where the roles have reversed: Marianne is thriving, while Connell is shy and uncertain. Through their college years, they remain magnetically drawn to each other, despite outside forces threatening to pull them apart.
As the jokes go, every rom-com heroine works for a magazine, owns a bakery, or has a creative job of sorts. But Ali Hazelwood turns that stereotype on its head with The Love Hypothesis , the first in a series of romances involving women working in STEM.
The Love Hypothesis (which actually started out as fan fiction) introduces readers to Olive, a lovable PhD candidate who fake dates Adam, a young and successful professor, in order to convince her best friend that she's in a happy relationship. As most fake dating books go, Adam and Olive begin to realize that their feelings might not be fake, with charming romantic twists that will make your heart flutter.
Michelle Zauner, also the lead singer of the band Japanese Breakfast, flexes her writing chops in this moving memoir about losing her mother and reclaiming her Korean-American identity.
After growing up as one of the few Asian-American kids in her Oregon hometown, Zauner begins to shed her Korean identity, especially as the pressure of her mother's lofty expectations loom. When her mother is diagnosed with terminal cancer, it forces her to reckon with not only their relationship, but her Korean roots, as the pair bond over their shared culinary memories. This book feels like sensory overload in the best way: Zauner's depictions of grief and loss are cathartic for anyone who has experienced it, and she holds her own as a talented food writer.
You don't have to be a high schooler to fall head over heels for A Good Girl's Guide To Murder , the first installment in a trilogy that casts teen Pippa as an unsuspecting detective investigating a murder that took place in her hometown five years before. As she dives deeper into the case, she turns her findings into a podcast that makes her the target of messages threatening her to stop the investigation...or else.
Although this is technically a young adult mystery, it's complete with sophisticated twists that will leave even the most seasoned thriller readers reeling.
So you're interested in science fiction but have no clue where to start? Might we suggest Project Hail Mary , one of the most readable sci-fi novels and a perennial BookTok fave?
When Ryland Grace wakes up as the sole survivor on a spaceship, he can't even remember his own name, let alone the fact that he's the only person who can save the planet. It's up to him to rescue humankind, aided by Rocky, an alien companion who has strong Wall-E vibes. This book has a lot of science talk, but Weir's deeply emotional writing and knack for building suspense will hook you.
There are plenty of sweet mother-daughter stories that have made waves on TikTok, but Lessons in Chemistry , which also inspires women to chase their dreams, is a standout.
Elizabeth Zott is a talented chemist who is constantly passed over for promotions and recognition. After all, it's the 1960s, and chemistry is a male-dominated field. When she meets Calvin Evans, a lonely Nobel Prize winner, he's the first person to give her a chance. Years later, Elizabeth finds herself as a single mother and the reluctant star of Supper at Six , a cooking show that infuses chemistry principles into recipes—and in turn, inspires viewers to change the status quo. Oh, did we mention there's a talking dog?
Schitt's Creek fans, listen up: It Happened One Summer is essentially a steamy take on what would happen if Alexis Rose was sent to a small beach town in the Pacific Northwest, where she falls for a surly boat captain she can't quit butting heads with.
Tessa Bailey is a popular author on BookTok—she's written everything from spicy holiday romances to flirty comedies revolving around a cast of construction worker characters. Despite her vast catalog, this book (and its sequel, Hook, Line, and Sinker ) has made the biggest splash on TikTok, and for good reason: It's her best work!
Madison McGee is a lifestyle editor for Hearst Magazines. She can usually be found reading, exploring New York’s many indie bookstores, cheering on the Baltimore Ravens and the Ole Miss Rebels, or wishing she was lying on the beach.

With over 84 billion views globally, #BookTok is one of TikTok’s most active and enthusiastic communities — all united around the singular goal of sharing a love for reading and books. Since TikTok’s global rise to popularity, now boasting over 1 million active monthly users , #BookTok has made a splash and led to several important partnerships and activations on the platform. Because of that, the books that went viral on TikTok have led to many many sales for these authors.
The #BookTokChallenge was held this summer and challenged TikTok users to share what they were reading. Held from June 29-August 31, the hashtag currently has 170 million views and features several creators and a partnership with Barnes & Noble. And at the end of September, TikTok announced a collaboration with Penguin Random House that allows creators to link their favorite books in-app. This feature is currently available in the U.S. and UK.
In preparation for compiling this list, a quick scroll through #BookTok unearthed top videos primarily from white creators who focus on books by white authors with mostly white characters. Thanks to TikTok’s algorithm, users can curate their feeds with diverse creators who feature a variety of titles, but the first challenge is finding those creators and actively engaging with their content. It is the hope that looking up some of these titles will introduce you to a new side of #BookTok (if you’re not already there).
There’s no doubt that #BookTok is an incredibly useful platform — having given several backlist titles new life and a second chance at The New York Times Best Seller lists. With it, lesser known or new authors also have an equal opportunity to go viral as globally known ones. And it is amazing to see a new generation fall in love with reading, whether they discover a classic or the latest release.
Let’s get into the list!

The second book in Hibbert’s Brown Sisters series, this installment focuses on a fake dating plot between Dani Brown and brooding security guard, Zafir. After he saves her from a workplace fire, the internet goes wild for them. Dani considers this the best of both worlds — a friends with benefits scenario with no commitment. Little does she know, Zaf is secretly a hopeless romantic and he’s set his sights on breaking down Dani’s walls.
It wouldn’t be a #BookTok list without CoHo. All of her books are having a moment, but this is one of the most popular. When Lily meets Ryle, he seems too good to be true. Popular among #HorrorBookTok, this novella has left readers with a bad taste in their mouths..in the best way. Told through a series of emails, we are introduced to two women who connect online through the sale of an antique apple peeler. The purely transactional relationship soon develops into something darker, sinister, and shows how far people will go to please the people in their lives. Heads up for a lot of body horror.

Having met during college after moving to New York, the friends begin to realize that they know little to nothing about Jude, even though he has become the center of their group. Told in multiple parts, we learn about Jude’s horrific past and how it made him into the man he is today. This book is highly recommended on the platform, but please look up content warnings prior to starting!
Vuong is more widely known for his poetry and he brings his beautiful imagery and words into this debut. This entire book is written as a letter to the main character’s mother, who is illiterate and will never read it. The book is semi-autobiographical and follows a family of Vietnamese refugees living in the United States. It is very much the coming-of-age story of Little Dog and how his family relates to the new home they’ve found themselves in.

It’s during this time of struggle that Rin discovers she has a secret, powerful ability that may make her the ticket to preventing the next Poppy War. Although this book is fantasy, it draws inspiration from mid-20th century China. Rin’s conflict is based on the Second Sino-Japanese War, and the overall atmosphere of the novel is inspired by the Song dynasty.

Indigenous author Roanhorse is so good at creating stories inspired by past civilizations but giving them a futuristic feel. Black Sun focuses on the holy city of Tova, which celebrates the winter solstice each year. For the first time, the solstice coincides with a solar eclipse that the Sun Priest predicts will unbalance the world. So when a ship from a distant city arrives carrying a mysterious passenger, the city of Tova and its citizens are needlessly distraught.
Maas’ fantasy fae series has been making waves within the #BookTok community with a combination of its characters and spicy dialogue. Although the story develops considerably through the series, it starts with the kidnapping of Feyre from her human home. Her initial hatred of her captor, a faerie named Tamlin, eventually transforms into a fiery passion and Feyre finds herself in the middle of a brewing conflict that could potentially change the fae world forever.
You may have heard about “the cannibal TikTok book,” well here it is. Originally published in Spanish, the English translation was made available in 2020 and quickly swept the internet. In a future world where all animals have been contaminated by a mysterious virus, cannibalism has become legal in order for humans to continue to eat meat. Human slaughterhouses have become commonplace, with specific bodies being created for the purpose of consumption.

If you’ve ever scrolled on TikTok, chances are, you’ve found yourself on #BookTok, where book lovers share their reviews, recommendations , curated lists of specific tropes (enemies-to-lovers, anyone?), and more. As we know, TikTok’s For You Page algorithm curates the videos you see based on what you’re interested in, and I’ve found myself firmly planted in the BookTok world. There are a few TikTok books that appear again and again, and a large majority of them have made their way onto my TBR list.
While romance, fantasy, and thrillers seem to stand out as the most popular BookTok genres, there is truly something for everyone within these popular recommendations. Some of these books are new and some were published years ago, but they have all been given new life through the app that is slowly taking over our lives. You’ll see readers doing fun videos like letting you know which books are worth it and which are not and—my personal favorite—telling a story as if it happened to them only to reveal what book it comes from at the end.
I strongly recommend taking a look at the BookTok hashtag, but to get you started, we’ve put together a list of 20 of the most popular recommendations we’ve seen so far:

This is one to read before it hits the screen—the movie adaptation starring Lucy Hale is set to be released later this year.

This paper examines the variables that led to the highest levels of objectified body consciousness (OBC) and physical body dissatisfaction (PBD) among adolescents aged 13-19 who were exposed to TikTok and attended school in Miami-Dade County after the COVID-19 pandemic. TikTok is used at high frequencies by various adolescent age ranges; however, previous studies identified that constant exposure leads to negative body image issues, ultimately resulting in long-term detrimental health effects. Factor analysis identified the correlation among variables collected through the distribution of a questionnaire in which adolescents shared their feelings about their body images from exposure to TikTok. The strongest variables identifying PBD and OBC among adolescents were the exposure before and after one’s reported TikTok experience and the belief that one’s TikTok experience affects an adolescent’s perception of their physical appearance and the answer to this question, respectively. This study identified that users who engaged in higher frequencies of TikTok usage were more likely to rate themselves with a higher overall body satisfaction due to pre-established conditioning of harmful exposure from TikTok, regardless of one’s gender. Conclusions drawn were that social media applications such as TikTok directly impact an adolescent’s feeling of OBC and PBD, and increased exposure will only lead to lower PBD levels and higher OBC levels, altering one’s self-perception.

The author of “Funny Story” churned out five consecutive No. 1 best-sellers without leaving her comfort zone. How did she pull it off?
“Everything around release is really, really exciting,” Emily Henry said, “but it’s not the space I want to live in. I want to be at home writing.” Credit... Madeleine Hordinski for The New York Times

Emily Henry has never been on a book tour or done a traditional bookstore reading. She’s not on TikTok. Her Instagram features book covers and an occasional giveaway; there are no closet tours, rescue cats or elegantly plated snacks.
Henry doesn’t want to be, as she puts it, a “writer slash mini-celebrity.” She’s a romance novelist , full stop. It’s an uncommon, maybe even gutsy, approach in the era of the all-access pass, when readers of popular fiction expect a level of quasi intimacy with favorite writers.
Nevertheless, Henry — “EmHen” to fans — has launched five No. 1 best-sellers in four years. Her latest blockbuster, “Funny Story,” has been on the best-seller list for nine weeks. In its first two months, the book racked up almost 60,000 customer reviews on Goodreads and sparked a cottage industry of T-shirts, sweatshirts, candles, bookmarks and stickers.
All told, Henry has sold seven million copies of her books in the United States since 2020. Three of her novels are in development to become films. On Tuesday, Henry announced that another, “Happy Place,” is going to be a series on Netflix.
“It’s been kind of a whirlwind,” Henry said. “The last four years have felt like they were 35 seconds long.”
Chatting with Henry outside Coffee Emporium in leafiest Cincinnati, it was hard to imagine her retreating into quietude. She presented as an instant connector, parrying substantive conversation while perusing a menu that included a Brew Hoo, a Flying Piggie and an Orange Jillius. And while we’re in the vicinity of old school mall food courts: Imagine Elisabeth Shue in “ Adventures in Babysitting ” crossed with Carly Simon circa “You’re So Vain” and you have Henry’s blond, brown-eyed warmth.

The book was published by a canadian-based author, comedian and youtuber., nick hardinges, published june 25, 2024.
About this rating
This "children's book" really exists, but its content was satirical and it was written and published for adults, not children.
On June 24, 2024, an X user posted a video of a woman reading aloud a purported kids' book titled "Mom and Dad's Swinger Party" and suggested the publication proved the queer community is "filled with pedophiles."
Other X users replying to the clip appeared to believe the title was a legitimate children's book , with one writing : "This is disgusting. What would possess someone to write and publish this?"
Similar posts appeared elsewhere on X in June 2024, with one captioned : "They're going after the kids."
Together, they had amassed more than 640,000 views at the time of this writing.
The claim also appeared in numerous X posts in June 2023, where one user wrote : "Unreal. This is a "childrens" book explaining "Mom & Dad's Swinger Parties". If this isn't grooming a child into adult perversions…I don't know what is. It's probably available at your local school library!"
However, the book was created by Brad Gosse , a comedian, author and YouTuber based in Toronto, Canada, who writes satirical, "dark humor" books in the style of kids' books.
The last page of the publication was shown in the video, where it stated the content was satirical, as follows:
I have over 100 humor books and several strange coloring books available on Amazon. My humor books cover a wide range of topics and styles, from dumb jokes and puns to satirical takes on current events. Whatever your sense of humor, you'll find something to love or hate in my collection.
Gosse's website contained more than 120 children's-style books. It stated: "He loves to entertain people whether it be through his jokes or his books. He started publishing his 'children's books' in 2019. He has published over 120 dark humor books so far."
He also branded himself a "professional troll" in his X bio , where he said: "If you're triggered I'm thrilled."
The video being shared online in June 2024 was originally posted by TikTok user @jenjenivivereads, whose caption read: "Ive [sic] edited this post to say that this is an ADULTS parody book. Because the level of hate im [sic] getting right now is ridiculous."
Some X users who shared the clip in June 2024 later added they had discovered the book was satirical.
For background, here is why we sometimes write about satire/humor.
